The Women Empowerment Club (WEC) at York University is a feminist student club founded in 2011 with the purpose of empowering all self-identifying women in the York community. Operating from an intersectional feminist framework, WEC aims to provide an open and safe space for people of different genders, races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. We welcome members of diverse backgrounds since we strongly believe that society as a whole needs to be involved to drive social change.

WEC raises awareness of social issues through initiatives that include bi-monthly symposiums on various issues such as Women & Health and Domestic Violence; Social events such as movie nights and discussion circles; Fundraising through our annual Charity Drive for a local women’s shelter and our annual bake sale to raise funds for international development; and volunteering at a local shelter. Our annual conference is WEC’s biggest event of the year, providing members with an opportunity to be exposed to new ideas and connect to the leaders of the feminist world.
